About The Position

Join one of Columbia’s largest technology employers for our 2026 Summer Internship! This is an exciting opportunity to gain real-world, technical experience and the first step towards building a long lasting, stable career after graduation. This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) in Columbia, SC from May 18 – August 7. You must be able to work on-site 3-5 days/week in Columbia throughout the 12-week internship. Description Description Position Purpose: Working with your assigned team, the IT Student Intern will embark on a professional development journey, gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic and supportive environment. Your responsibilities will evolve based on the needs of the department and your growing expertise. Working under direct supervision, you’ll be tasked with entry-level assignments while concurrently learning professional-level tasks related to IT/Computer Science. What You’ll Do: Training, tasks, and technologies you’ll use will vary based on the area you are assigned. Some of the I/S areas our interns will work in include application development, application/system support, hardware/workstation support, infrastructure/network administration, project management, security and compliance, etc. You will participate in a variety of volunteering and networking events, presentations, and discussions to learn more about the healthcare insurance industry, BlueCross, the I/S division, Columbia, and our post-graduate IT training program (ELTP).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a minimum of 12 semester hours earned in the field of Computer Science or other IT-related majors and must be currently enrolled in college and working towards obtaining a 4-year degree in Computer Science or other IT-related majors.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Analytical or critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion.
  • Good planning and multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong listening skills and the ability to follow directions and ask questions to ensure a productive internship.
  • Microsoft Office.
