About The Position

The IT Project Manager II serves as a facilitator for projects led by the Office of Information Technology (OIT) and provides guidance to IT operational managers and project teams across campus. Focuses on best practices for project management on both departmental and enterprise-wide IT projects. Manages medium, moderately complex, critical and non-critical IT projects requiring knowledge and demonstrated expertise in project management. Oversees, creates, and implements project plans. Provides feedback and mentorship for entry-level OIT project managers. The University of Alabama is embarking to transition its on-premises finance and HCM ERP systems to a modern cloud platform. This role acts as a liaison and mentor to operational managers and project teams, promoting best practices in project management across both departmental and enterprise-level IT initiatives. It involves managing IT projects that require demonstrated expertise in project management, as well as overseeing, planning, and executing comprehensive project plans. This position is time-limited to the duration of the project due to additional department staffing needs while engaged in this project, but could lead to regular employment at the University.

Requirements

  • Master's degree; OR bachelor's degree and two (2) years of IT project management experience; OR associate's degree and four (4) years of IT experience to include two (2) years of IT project management; OR High school diploma or GED and six (6) years of IT experience to include two (2) years of IT project management.
  • Must have valid U.S. driver's license.
  • Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies.
  • Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in higher education.
  • CAPM or PMP certification.
  • Demonstrated formal project management training.
