About The Position

The Manager of Development and Applications is a hands-on technical leader responsible for the design, development, integration, and support of the organization’s application portfolio. This includes custom-built (home-grown) applications and third-party SaaS platforms that support administrative, programmatic, and retail operations. Working within a not-for-profit environment, this role ensures applications are reliable, secure, user-centered, and aligned with the organization’s mission, operational needs, and retail activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in application development, support, or systems analysis
  • 2+ years of experience in a leadership or senior technical role
  • Strong hands-on experience with application development and support in both custom and SaaS environments
  • Experience supporting retail systems, including POS, inventory, pricing, promotions, and payment processing
  • Proficiency with modern development languages, frameworks, APIs, and integration tools
  • Experience with databases, reporting tools, and data integrations
  • Solid understanding of application security, access control, and data protection
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated commitment to user-centered design and continuous improvement

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a not-for-profit, retail, or multi-site environment preferred
  • Relevant certifications preferred but not required, such as:
  • Cloud platform certifications (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • SaaS platform or POS system certifications
  • Agile, Scrum, or project management certifications

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, maintenance, and support of custom applications used across the organization, including those supporting retail, distribution/warehouse and call center operations
  • Oversee the implementation, configuration, integration, and ongoing management of custom built and SaaS applications such as POS, inventory, pricing, e-commerce, CRM, ERP, and reporting tools
  • Serve as a hands-on technical resource, contributing to application design, coding, configuration, integrations, testing, and troubleshooting as needed
  • Design and manage application integrations between home-grown systems, SaaS platforms, payment processors, and data/reporting tools
  • Assist in partnering with retail, programs, finance, and operations teams to gather requirements and translate business needs into effective technical solutions
  • Ensure application reliability, performance, scalability, and security, including access controls, data integrity, and compliance considerations
  • Manage application lifecycle activities, including upgrades, enhancements, documentation, and decommissioning
  • Establish and enforce development standards, change management processes, and best practices appropriate for a small, agile team
  • Assist in overseeing vendor relationships related to SaaS platforms, development tools, and application support services
  • Support data quality, reporting, and analytics needs across retail and organizational systems
  • Participate in after-hours support and release activities as required
  • Projects as assigned by the IT Manager/Director/VP
  • Lead and mentor a small development and applications team, including developers, analysts, or administrators
  • Provide technical guidance, code review, and support for professional growth
  • Prioritize work and allocate resources in a lean, mission-driven environment
