About The Position

The Internship Program with Ascension is designed to provide an on-the-job learning opportunity aimed at gaining "real world" work experience in a large healthcare environment, supporting leadership with data-driven insights that deliver value to those we serve. As a Cybersecurity Intern focusing on Application and Offensive Security, you will be integrated into our security operations to help identify, triage, and remediate vulnerabilities. This role is ideal for a student pursuing a cybersecurity-focused career path who is eager to understand the lifecycle of a threat—from initial identification to final risk reporting. As an Application & Offensive Security Intern, you will participate in the following work within the Cybersecurity Team: Vulnerability Triage: Assist in the end-to-end process of identifying, understanding, and triaging vulnerabilities across the enterprise. Offensive Security Engagements: Support "offensive-style" security tests and simulations to identify potential exposure points. Source Code Reviews: Participate in security reviews of application source code to identify flaws before they reach production. Remediation Support: Assist technical teams in understanding reported risks and provide guidance on effective remediation strategies. Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM): Gain exposure to modern security frameworks and tools used to manage and reduce the organization’s attack surface.

Requirements

  • High school diploma equivalency OR Enrolled in accredited program specific to discipline required.

Nice To Haves

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field with a clear focus on security.
  • Technical Interest: A strong desire to work with tools such as Horizon3 NodeZero, Onspring, and Ox Security.
  • Security Mindset: Basic understanding of offensive security concepts, application security principles, or Continuous Threat Exposure Management (CTEM).
  • Communication: Solid verbal and written communication skills; must be comfortable and professional while collaborating with teammates on camera.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to break down complex vulnerabilities and explain them to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Threat Analysis: Utilizing industry-standard tools to evaluate the severity and impact of security findings.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with development and infrastructure teams to ensure security is baked into the technology lifecycle.
  • Continuous Learning: Maintaining a "student of the game" mentality to stay ahead of evolving cyber threats and defensive methodologies.
