About The Position

The Internship Program with Ascension is designed to provide an on-the-job learning opportunity aimed at gaining "real world" work experience in a large healthcare environment, supporting leadership with data-driven insights that deliver value to those we serve. As a Cybersecurity Governance & Risk Intern, you will be part of a critical mission to move our organization from reactive security to a proactive, risk-based approach. You will assist in building out and operationalizing a mature cybersecurity risk program, gaining exposure to how a national health system identifies, treats, and monitors enterprise-level digital threats.

Requirements

  • High school diploma equivalency OR Enrolled in accredited program specific to discipline required.

Nice To Haves

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Business Administration (with a focus on Risk Management), or a related technical field.
  • Foundational Knowledge: An entry-level understanding of cybersecurity risk management concepts and security controls.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal and written communication skills; ability to translate technical risks into business context.
  • Collaboration: A team-oriented mindset with the ability to work effectively across different departments.
  • Analytical Thinking: The ability to look at complex systems and identify potential points of failure or vulnerability.

Responsibilities

  • Risk Identification & Assessment: Support the implementation of systematic methodologies to identify and prioritize risks across the enterprise and our third-party ecosystem.
  • Risk Treatment Planning: Assist in developing detailed plans for mitigating identified risks, including the selection and implementation of specific security controls.
  • Program Operationalization: Help transition security measures into a comprehensive, mature risk program that aligns with healthcare industry standards.
  • Continuous Monitoring: Help track Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) to ensure security controls are functioning effectively over time.
  • Reporting & Intelligence: Assist in the creation of risk intelligence reports to provide leadership with timely, actionable data.
  • Risk Analysis: Learning to evaluate the likelihood and impact of various cybersecurity threats to the organization.
  • Control Evaluation: Reviewing security controls to ensure they meet the requirements of our governance framework.
  • Documentation & Process Design: Helping create the procedural documentation necessary to maintain a standardized risk management program.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborating with various IT and business units to gather data and communicate risk findings.
