About The Position

As an Infrastructure team member who shares in the responsibility of the daily operations and support of the City of Conroe's infrastructure, this position will implement, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, secure, and monitor all aspects of the city's server and storage infrastructure. This position has a major impact on the entire organization and requires a high-level understanding of the City of Conroe and attention to detail.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Three years of college study in computer science or two years extended training in IT field.
  • Three years of experience in server hardware and OS support including LAN/WAN and server virtualization.
  • Experience in server virtualization, storage area networks, Active Directory, Microsoft Servers/Exchange/SQL/SMS, ESRI applications and other systems as required.
  • Must possess valid class "C" Texas driver's license or higher.
  • Extensive experience with VMware products.
  • Experience with networking, wireless, servers, SANs, VOIP, datacenter power systems, backup applications for physical and virtual servers.
  • Knowledge of and experience in storage area network hardware, data security and backup strategies, disaster recovery plan and other network related hardware/software.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Active Directory, group policies, Microsoft server OS, Exchange/Outlook/OWA E-Mail (server and client) and other server software packages.
  • Ability to serve the public and other City departments in a diplomatic and professional manner, exercising good emotional control; must have good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision or as part of a team and on multiple projects simultaneously and maintain a quality work product.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for solving problems accurately and quickly for resolution and enhancements to the City server environment.
  • After-hours and weekend work required depending upon the nature of the project.
  • Must pass background check and pre-employment substance abuse screening as a condition of employment.
  • A motor vehicle record check and job-related doctor's physical exam may also be required.
  • Must pass FBI Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) fingerprint-based criminal background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.

Nice To Haves

  • CompTIA Network +, Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician, or comparable certificate as determined by the supervisor preferred. (Must be obtained within six months of employment or attainment of position as a condition of continued employment. If the certification expires, becomes obsolete or ceases to be offered by the certification authority, then you are required to achieve a new or higher qualifying certification within one year of expiration.)
  • Preferred certifications include VMWare Certified Professional-Exam - VCP-DCV; Microsoft MCSA: Windows Server-Exam: 410, 411, 412; CompTIA Security +; Cisco CCNA; and Cisco CCNP.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, secure, and monitor all aspects of the city's server and storage infrastructure.
  • Administer enterprise monitoring software and event logs to ensure the server environment is performing as expected.
  • Create and update documentation and diagrams of the data center infrastructure, as well as other key systems.
  • Maintain awareness and provide recommendations on new products and technologies to ensure growth and efficiencies.
  • Assist the infrastructure services team with supporting all city networking and compute for performance and health of network switches, routers, wireless access points and firewalls.
  • Provide backup administration to other infrastructure staff, assist IT Manager on special projects and assist the desktop support staff when the workload requires.
  • Coordinate with vendors and other IT personnel.
  • Participate in rotating call schedule and must be able to accept escalation from others on non-call weeks.
  • Respond to on-call and emergency after-hours events.
