About The Position

Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our Tech & Ops team as
an Infrastructure Engineering Intern!

Overview
We are seeking a motivated Infrastructure Engineering Intern to join our team.
This role is ideal for a final-year undergraduate student who has exposure to
Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and other RDS database systems, AWS cloud
services, and foundational data engineering concepts. You will gain hands-on
experience working on database technologies and data pipelines.

Requirements

• Academic background: Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (final year).
• SQL (basic to intermediate level).
• Exposure to AWS cloud services (data storage, compute or analytics).
• Familiarity with Python or PowerShell scripting languages.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking.
• Eagerness to learn and adapt quickly.
• Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Nice To Haves

• Exposure to Datadog, Grafana.
• Familiarity with version control (Git/GitHub).

Responsibilities

• Assist in building, migrating, and maintaining MSSQL Server and PostgreSQL database systems.
• Work with AWS services (EC2, S3, CloudWatch, CloudFormation etc.) to manage and maintain database systems.
• Support existing systems and troubleshoot issues.
• Collaborate with senior data engineers and database administrators on projects.
• Document processes, workflows and solutions.
