About The Position

The Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) has an exciting opportunity for an IT Business Systems Analyst to support the State Crime Laboratory. This position will support the forensic professionals and the specialized software applications used by the Crime Laboratory. The IT Business Systems Analyst (BSA) will work cooperatively with the IT BSA Coordinator to play a critical role in the laboratory business systems process development, improvement, and management. This individual will also write queries, create reports and problem solve, working closely with the laboratory staff, customer agencies, and application vendors. The State Crime Laboratory has several specialized software applications that support the laboratory, law enforcement and attorneys state-wide. As an IT Business Systems Analyst, you will: Develop automated system workflows for business processes Write queries and create reports using SQL Perform system and user acceptance testing Strategize with Crime Laboratory leadership, end users, and the vendor to find software solutions for complex business processes relating to the Crime Laboratory operations Assess potential process impact as it relates to proposed legislation Update current processes due to changing state statutes and federal regulations, and to take full advantage of software capabilities Integrate system reporting and document business processes Develop testing procedures of new or upgraded applications Identify improvements in the workflow operation Train staff on new technology Assist in seeking solutions to hardware and network issues Other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification Primary programs include Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services, SQL Server Management Studio, Crystal Reports, Ideagen Quality Management, Porter Lee's BEAST LIMS, Visual Studio, Microsoft Project, SharePoint, Microsoft Office 365, and several specialized forensic applications. The IT Business Systems Analyst will review and incorporate best practices including criminal justice information security and NITC standards related to application development. It will be important to understand the needs of the forensic laboratory and to keep clear lines of communication with supervisor, peers, staff, and personnel in affected NSP divisions and partner agencies.

Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications: Post high school coursework, training, or experience in the analysis of business processes and system requirements, and the creation of business process applications.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is expected.
  • If selected for this position, you must meet the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services employment eligibility requirements by completing an EEV (I-9) Form.

  • Preferred Qualifications: Associate degree in computer science or related field. Database management, crystal reports , and SQL experience.
