About The Position

Responsible for the installation, adjustment and maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment and parts in the power generating plant. Maintains and repairs boilers, pumps, motors, fans and heat exchangers; maintains and repairs turbine generators and auxiliary equipment on both coal-fired and gas-fired units. Diagnoses trouble or defects and makes necessary repairs or adjustments working from sketches, blueprints, parts books or broken parts. Participates in general plant maintenance and upkeep. May be called in for emergency or unusual situations during off duty hours. Performs related duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Four (4) years experience in a power plant or other heavy industrial mechanical work within a compatible field, preferably with three (3) years as journeyman mechanic
  • Must have welder certification or minimum of one year welding experience
  • Must possess a valid Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License
  • Must complete required NIMS level training within first six months of hire
  • Knowledge and experience maintaining power generation equipment, including fans, pumps, motors, gas compressors, air compressors, coal handling equipment, coal pulverizers, steam and gas turbines and all other equipment utilized in a power generating plant
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Skilled in the use of mechanical hand tools and precision measurement equipment; arc and gas welding; gas torch and carbon arc-cutting instruments; rigging and crane operation; operation of back-hoes, skid loaders, and cranes
  • Knowledge and skill in basic mathematics and mechanical safety
