About The Position

The Equipment Inventory Manager is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of heavy equipment assets—procurement, allocation, tracking, valuation, redeployment, and disposal. This role ensures that fleet inventory aligns with operational demand, financial targets, and manufacturer requirements. The manager provides strategic oversight to optimize fleet mix, availability, utilization, and return on capital for all equipment categories.

Requirements

  • 5–10+ years of experience in equipment inventory, fleet management, dealership operations, or asset management.
  • Strong knowledge of heavy & aggregate equipment categories, specifications, and lifecycle economics.
  • Experience with ERP systems, not required (e-Emphasys preferred).
  • Financial acumen related to capex, depreciation, valuation, and utilization metrics.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate across departments and manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute annual equipment purchase plans based on retail and rental market demand, utilization trends, and business strategy.
  • Work with OEMs and suppliers to secure availability, pricing, lead times, and build configurations.
  • Monitor fleet aging, hours, and condition to support timely replacement planning.
  • Maintain accurate forecasts for new, used, rental, and customer‑owned equipment needs.
  • Oversee the accuracy of all equipment records, including serial numbers, hours, status, location, warranty, and financial data.
  • Manage inbound/outbound equipment logistics, receiving, staging, and allocation to branches.
  • Track the status of equipment across sales, rental, demo, and service lifecycle states.
  • Ensure ERP system accuracy for fleet inventory and capital asset accounting.
  • Monitor utilization rates and redeploy underutilized assets to maximize ROI.
  • Analyze demand patterns to maintain the right mix of models, sizes, and specs.
  • Support internal stakeholders (sales, rental, service) with fleet and attachment availability planning.
  • Oversee fleet maintenance standards in collaboration with Product Support.
  • Support fleet financial planning including capex budgeting, depreciation, and disposition strategy.
  • Monitor inventory valuation and provide reporting on aging, turns, and capital exposure.
  • Partner with finance on equipment costing, margin analysis, and audit compliance.
  • Evaluate owning and operating cost trends to support business decisions.
  • Manage used equipment evaluation, inspections, and reconditioning planning.
  • Work with sales leaders to develop and execute resale strategies including wholesale, retail, auction, and trade-in channels.
  • Track residual values and market pricing to optimize timing of disposals.
  • Work closely with sales, rental, service, finance, and branch operations to ensure accuracy and alignment.
  • Communicate fleet availability, shortages, backlog, and capital planning updates.
  • Provide guidance to inventory coordinators, logistics staff, or fleet analysts.
