GENERAL SUMMARY At AM General our Manufacturing Engineering Interns support vehicle manufacturing operation by assisting with activities aligned to the plant line. The Manufacturing Engineering Intern will support manufacturing engineers in a production environment by assisting with workstation layout design, work instruction updates, and time studies. This role provides hands-on exposure to assembly operations, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration with production teams.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, with junior or senior standing preferred
  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to clearly and accurately document technical and quality-related information.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional, production-focused environment.
  • High level of professionalism, reliability, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Assist manufacturing engineers with designing and updating workstation and assembly line layouts
  • Support the development, review, and revision of standardized work instructions
  • Conduct time studies to support labor analysis and process optimization
  • Participate in identifying and troubleshooting production and assembly issues
  • Collaborate with production operators and supervisors to resolve manufacturing challenges
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, quality, and safety
  • Document process changes and assist with implementation of approved improvements
  • Assist in preparing clear, data-driven reports, summaries, and presentations highlighting key findings, risks, and recommendations for management review.
