About The Position

Our Internal Communications Specialist will shape how employees receive and understand information--from firmwide updates to new-hire resources. This role, depending on candidate's preference, will work out of our San Francisco, Oakland, or Sacramento offices, in a hybrid capacity. The ideal candidate can lead projects, enhance the flow of information throughout the firm, and support teams during organizational changes with steady and consistent communication. The role combines clear writing, structured thinking, and strong judgment to ensure internal communication reflects Degenkolb's culture, values, and expectations. They will work closely with HR, Marketing, and Operations to keep internal information clear, accurate, and easy to use.

Requirements

  • 3–4+ years in internal communications, marketing, or employer branding, preferably in a professional services or engineering environment.
  • Strong writing and editing ability with attention to tone, clarity, and audience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with HR, Marketing, and Operations.
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort managing multiple projects independently.
  • Proficiency with presentation and design tools (PowerPoint, InDesign, Canva, Adobe).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing communication strategies or structured content frameworks.
  • Familiarity with change-management or employee-engagement initiatives.
  • Skill in visual storytelling and data visualization.
  • Understanding of brand-voice development and content governance.
  • Ability to facilitate input or feedback sessions with cross-functional groups.
  • Experience with intranet platforms or ATS tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain consistent tone, voice, and visual style across internal documents, including policies, the employee handbook, guidelines, and FAQs.
  • Lead or support content planning, organization, and upkeep with cross-functional partners.
  • Support communication and planning for internal conferences and firmwide events.
  • Develop and refine presentations for onboarding, training, and internal initiatives.
  • Work with leaders to strengthen company-wide messages for clarity, accuracy, and alignment.
  • Create resources for new hires and candidates.
  • Contribute to career-fair materials, recruiting ads, recruitment templates, and new-hire gifts.
  • Help teams communicate updates to processes, systems, and priorities; create materials that explain what is changing, why it matters, and how it affects employees.
