About The Position

Stockman Bank of Montana’s Missoula Market is offering an internship position to a student in a College of Business program for the summer of 2026. This internship provides an orientation to community banking through observation, exposure to regulatory compliance, and participation in day-to-day activities in several key departments: Operations/Teller, Customer Service, Commercial Lending, and Stockman Wealth Management.  Other departments may be added if found to be beneficial to the internship. Below is a brief summary of each department and the essential functions within: Teller - This position is responsible for extensive customer service.  Tellers comply with banking regulations and procedures while maintaining protection of the Bank‘s assets and customer information. Tellers perform basic paying and receiving functions including cashing checks and handling deposits, savings withdrawals, and loan payments.  Tellers balance cash, debits, and credits, while performing a variety of reconciliations. Customer Service Representative (CSR) - This position instills a thorough knowledge of all accounts, services, and products offered by Stockman. The CSR has extensive in-person and telephone contact and conducts relationships in a manner that will enhance the professionalism, community focus, and overall marketing effort of the Bank. The CSR must resolve customer account problems, gather and verify data for reports, accept wires, transfers, stop payments or address changes, and order checks, ATM and debit cards. Credit Analyst/Loan Assistant-  This position assist the Commercial Lending Officers and provides an introduction to the extension of credit and applicable regulations. It involves completion of project work to broaden the intern's  knowledge of commercial and consumer lending in a community bank environment. Responsibilities will include financial statement input and analysis, review of documentation and credit files, preparation of draft credit displays, and assisting with all aspects of relationship management. The intern will gain knowledge of the decision process through participation in loan committee and lender training. Stockman Wealth Management (SWM) - The intern will be exposed to investment activities, wealth management strategies, and policies.  The position requires professional interaction with clients, preparation of prospect proposals, and review of forms, disclosures, and marketing material for regulatory compliance. The position supports management decisions and goals in a positive, professional manner.

Requirements

  • Applicants should be entering their junior or senior year in Finance, Accounting or Economics at the University of Montana
  • Interested in a community banking career
  • Intelligent, detail oriented, analytical, and willing to collaborate
  • Professional with demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess a working knowledge and proficiency with office programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • All employment with Stockman is contingent upon successful completion of our standard background check.
