About The Position

As an Amentum Space Exploration Division (ASED) intern, you will work alongside engineers and scientists on hardware development, payload integration & operations, laboratory & test operations, modeling & simulation, space environments, scientific research and propulsion systems for programs like Human Landing Systems, Space Launch Systems and the International Space Station! Overview: Provide engineering intern level support for the Space Launch System (SLS) program on behalf of the Flight and Ground Software Division (ES50). This support will include participation in engineering reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs), technical performance meetings, teleconferences, working groups and/or trade studies. Engineering support tasks to be performed include: Assist with technical integration across SLS elements, diverse engineering and program organizations, and a variety of engineering disciplines such as power, structures, and avionics. Assist in the development of the interface design documentation and negotiation of open requirements issues to ensure closure within the corresponding organizational schedules. Assist in the development of inputs to key engineering products. Assist in technical evaluations of verification closure data and rationale. Duties: Assist Flight Software Requirements and Validation & Verification and Test teams. Work with Flight Software (FSW) requirement development tools. Participate in technical integration meetings comprised of a variety of engineering disciplines. Expectations included in the ASED Internship: You are expected to have a valid driver’s license, have access to an automobile, and be able to drive yourself to work locations. You will be expected to attend MSFC facility scheduled tours, Technical Fellow talks, luncheons, and training sessions in addition to your work. We highly encourage you to participate in activities outside of work with your fellow interns. These activities will be scheduled, with your input, by your social coordinators and will be beneficial in forming a cohesive group and lasting friendships.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in a Bachelor of Science degree program in Engineering or related STEM degree (from an ABET accredited institution preferred) is required.
  • Must have completed the sophomore year of degree program.
  • Must be able to provide own transportation.
  • Maintains a minimum of a 3.0 out of 4.0 overall grade point average.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, and the pragmatic application of design theory and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work and thrive in a team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read basic design schematics and diagrams.
  • Proficient with MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Understanding of Data Collection and Preparation (Gathering, Cleaning, Organization, Identifying errors, and formatting of Data.)
  • Understanding of Data Analysis and Interpretation (Structuring data, use of Excel, basic analysis approaches)
  • Understanding of Reporting (Creating charts, preparing reports, and data insights)
  • Understanding of Data Management (Maintaining and updating data systems, documenting processes)
  • Collaboration (Work closely with teams, support ad-hoc requests, and provide feedback from time-to-time)
  • Understanding of Software Development and Testing practices, knowledge of SharePoint, JIRA, DOORS or DOORS Next Gen (DNG).
  • Understanding of Git version control and repository management.
  • Understanding of engineering documentation development and review cycles.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of flight operations, mission control, or ground support is a plus.
