WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Mechanical Engineering Intern – Manufacturing Time Studies Position Summary The Mechanical Engineering Intern – Manufacturing Time Studies supports Manufacturing and Engineering teams with a primary focus on manufacturing time studies, labor analysis, and process documentation. This role involves collecting and analyzing shop-floor data to establish standard times, identify inefficiencies, and support continuous improvement initiatives across production operations. The intern will work closely with Manufacturing Engineers, Production Supervisors, Quality, and Materials teams to improve operational performance and gain hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship, co-op, or project experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with time studies, Lean manufacturing, or Six Sigma concepts.
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings or manufacturing documentation.
  • Basic familiarity with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct manufacturing time studies using approved work measurement techniques, including stopwatch studies, work sampling, and direct observation.
  • Document standard work, cycle times, and process flows for manufacturing operations.
  • Assist in the development and validation of labor standards, routings, and capacity models.
  • Observe and analyze manufacturing processes to identify waste, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives (Lean / Kaizen) through data collection and analysis.
  • Prepare clear, accurate reports, spreadsheets, and visual summaries of time study results.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Materials teams to implement process improvements.
  • Participate in shop-floor activities to understand real-world manufacturing constraints.
  • Maintain accurate documentation while following established engineering, safety, and quality procedures.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to personal safety and the safety of company assets, employees, and the public.
  • Adhere to assigned schedules, maintain reliable attendance, and complete tasks as assigned.
  • Perform other engineering-related duties as required.
