Position Summary Working as part of the AI Readiness Intern Team, this intern will support the business process dimension of AI Use Case readiness—capturing current‑state workflows, clarifying roles/governance, identifying bottlenecks, and co‑designing future‑state processes that enable adoption and measurable value. The intern will collaborate with AI champions in R&D, Clinical, Technical Operations, and Corporate functions. The program culminates in a final presentation on accelerating AI Use Case readiness: Business Process. This intern is office-based in RTP, NC and will report to the Director, AI Automation and Integration.

Requirements

  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems (MIS), Business Administration, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field
  • Must be at least a Junior in university at the time of application
  • Required skills: process mapping, analytical thinking, stakeholder communication, structured documentation
  • Required systems experience: familiarity with productivity/project tools (e.g., Excel/Sheets, PowerPoint, Jira/Smartsheet)
  • Strong sense of accountability; ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Flexible and willing to support a variety of tasks for the AI Hub team
  • Proactive, solution‑driven mindset; comfort working cross‑functionally
  • Available to work full‑time at the office during the summer months (May–August)

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship, project, or research involving business process analysis or analytics
  • Exposure to process models/modeling techniques and tools
  • Familiarity with life‑sciences/health data concepts (e.g., assay data, clinical trial data standards)
  • Experience building dashboards with stakeholder‑friendly storytelling

Responsibilities

  • Support stakeholder interviews and requirements gathering for priority use cases
  • Learn to document processes using BPMN or swimlane diagrams, capturing pain points and controls
  • Review governance needs (data, model, validation, change control) and propose pragmatic approaches
  • Partner with business owners to define adoption success criteria and measurable outcomes
  • Observe end‑to-end handoffs impacting AI delivery (e.g., data prep, validation, deployment, feedback loops
  • Review and refine operating procedures, playbooks, and RACI matrices
  • Participate in pilot planning and readiness sprints; track impediments and risks
  • Assist with creating stakeholder communications and simple intake/triage processes
  • Maintain project artifacts and status updates; ensure clarity and traceability
  • Communicate recommendations with concise narratives linking process changes to business value
  • Present a final readout with a prioritized roadmap for process improvements
