About The Position

Since its launch in 2007, the Publix Summer Internship Program prepares a cohort of young professionals for a smorgasbord of opportunities in the workplace. This is achieved through relationship building, development of self-confidence, and insight into industry knowledge. The 2026 Summer program dates are May 18 th – July 24 th at our company facilities in Lakeland, FL. Over these 10 weeks, interns will work 40 hours a week participating in impactful departmental projects that connect classroom learning to real-world corporate experience. Candidates are encouraged to apply immediately. Position Overview The industrial safety intern works in collaboration with managers and supervisors to identify and mitigate risks. Within the department, the intern will have several responsibilities.

Requirements

  • must be an actively enrolled student not graduating prior to the start of the Summer Internship Program in May; or if graduating from a bachelor's degree program prior to the start of the internship, starting a graduate degree program in the upcoming summer or fall semester; or if graduating from a master’s degree program prior to the start of the internship, starting a graduate degree program in the upcoming summer or fall semester
  • must be pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree in Occupational Safety, Safety, Safety Management, Fire Protection, Industrial Hygiene and Safety Engineering or related field and be a current sophomore or above (rising junior or above as of the program start in Summer 2026) or a graduate student
  • basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • ability to review and analyze trends within a data set
  • high level of maturity, discretion, tact and judgment, and the ability to deal with confidential information
  • ability to multi-task
  • strong verbal and written communication skills
  • detail oriented with strong organizational skills
  • must have and wear safety toe footwear
  • ability to stand and walk for long periods of time

  • experience in manufacturing or warehouse setting

Responsibilities

  • analyze incident data from case management sources to identify patterns, detect trends, and to establish causal relationships within those metrics.
  • perform a work study on incident reporting data and processes and presenting that trend analysis
  • decipher the impact that in-task messaging has on injury frequency in the Retail and Industrial environment
  • conduct or validate various job safety analyses within distribution warehouses and manufacturing plants
  • participate in both large and small group training sessions
  • assist with the weekly safety assessment process
