About The Position

As an Intern with our Health & Safety Team, be prepared to work in a fast-paced, team environment and open to gaining broad experience. The role is specifically designed to provide real-life work experience in all aspects of health, safety and security based on the day-to-day activities of the refinery. Activities and assignments will be shared across the department, enabling this individual to learn and grow in all facets of the field. The main areas of focus will be Process Safety Management (PSM), Field Safety, Training, Security, Contractor Management, Emergency Response, Fire Protection, Product Compliance and General health/safety fundamentals in both field and office settings. Specific activities of the department may include but are not limited to, assisting in the coordination of reports, preparation of training materials, industrial hygiene assessments, job hazard and needs analysis, as well as, maintaining personal protective equipment and other apparatus. Assists with observations and hazard reporting while tracking Near Miss reports and corrective actions. Audits Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) components of the Process Safety Management (PSM) program. Assist with industrial hygiene noise monitoring and personnel sampling. Assist with hazard communication compliance, primarily labeling and SDS management. Assist with hazard recognition and mitigation related to field safety compliance. Participate in risk trending. Actively participates in incident investigations to learn, establish, and promote corrective action. Assist and participate in gap analyses, specifically contractor management and field safety. Performs field safety audits in accordance with established criteria. Assists with safety training activities and obtain OSHA 30 Hour Card. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by Supervisor/Management.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited higher education program with preference given to candidates with concentration in a safety, environmental, sciences or petroleum technology field.
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and be available to work up to 40 hours per week consistently.
  • Proficient in general office technologies including Microsoft Office Suite of applications.
  • Demonstrate open communication and positive working relationship with staff at various levels across the organization – able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Exercises good judgement; able to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently and respond effectively to inquiries and requests for assistance.
  • Proficient in defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive personal and business information and adheres to company security &/or non-disclosure polices.
  • Successful completion of all company mandated &/or job-related training programs deemed appropriate.
  • Possesses clarity of speech, hearing, vision, and observation to participate in work-place investigations and communicate effectively.
  • Sufficient personal mobility and manual dexterity to perform routine office duties and travel (when necessary) to off-site and field locations.
  • Must be able to walk, climb towers, stairs, scaffolds as needed to access equipment; some work at high elevations and in confined spaces may be required.
