As a SoFi Data Science Intern, you won’t be sitting on the sidelines during your internship. You’ll be working as a full-time member of our Data Science team, leveraging your analytical skills to identify the growth opportunities and insights that fulfill our mission to help our members get their money right.
In this role, you'll use your expertise in data analysis, statistical modeling, machine learning, & AI to uncover insights that will directly influence product strategy and revenue growth. You will be embedded on an agile development team, partnered with Product Management, Product Design, User Experience Research, and Engineering to build and ship product features that are released to the public on a regular basis.

Requirements

• Enrolled in an accredited US-based university (working towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree) with an expected graduation date of December 2026 or Spring 2027
• Must be returning to school for at least one quarter or semester after the internship
• Have no more than 12 months of professional full-time work experience (excluding internships and research assistant roles)
• Must be willing to relocate to San Francisco Bay Area and be available to work in the San Francisco HQ Office
• Some experience in analytics in a non-academic setting (internship, research roles, relevant projects, etc.)
• Solid understanding of data science fundamentals
• Experience using AI/Agentic tools (not just ChatGPT)
• Knowledge of machine learning algorithms, data structures, and systems architecture
• Ability to quickly learn new languages and adopt new technologies, methods and processes in a fast-paced work environment
• Intellectual curiosity and an affinity for solving problems

Responsibilities

• Identify high impact business opportunities to help members achieve their financial goals
• Develop and apply machine learning models to solve business problems
• Evaluate and interpret the results of data analysis
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders and present insights on a regular cadence communicating findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Design and implement data collection. Build data pipelines to deploy production level datasets.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and business leaders to understand needs and offer data-driven solutions
• Work with multiple languages and frameworks including: Python, SQL, dbt, Airflow, Tableau, & Cursor
• Learn about new technologies, tools, and processes that will build your skill set and help shape your career
• Present your summer project and work to SoFi’s senior leadership team
