About The Position

The Community Development Intern provides general support to the Community Development Department, with primary exposure to Planning functions. The intern assists with development review activities, customer service, research, and preparation of reports and materials related to municipal development processes. This position offers hands-on exposure to community development operations across multiple divisions. Additional Information: This internship provides broad exposure to municipal community development, including planning, permitting, inspections, code compliance, and health services, and is intended to complement academic coursework with practical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with various stages of the development process, including application intake, basic review, coordination, and tracking.
  • Support front-line customer service by assisting permit technicians with applicant inquiries and development-related questions.
  • Conduct research on planning, zoning, land use, and development topics to support staff analysis and recommendations.
  • Assist in preparing staff reports, memos, presentations, and materials for internal use and public meetings.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze data related to development activity and departmental processes.
  • Participate in field ride-alongs with inspectors, code compliance officers, and health officers to gain exposure to inspection and regulatory activities.
  • Assist with mapping, document management, and file organization related to planning and development projects.
