About The Position

Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking an Intern to support the Communications team in New York, reporting directly to the Director of Communications. Akin’s Summer Internship Program offers students a comprehensive experience that combines meaningful, hands-on work with opportunities to learn and develop professionally in a supportive, high-performing environment that values innovation, excellence and collaboration. In addition to the opportunities outlined below, the Intern will participate in targeted learning and development programs designed to offer deeper insight into life at a global law firm and sharpen practical skills for future success. Our Summer Internship Program runs from Monday, June 1st through Thursday, August 6th. Start and end dates can be flexible based on school schedules. As part of Communications team, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the firm’s marketing and communications processes. You will be an active member of Akin’s global Communications team, gaining hands‑on experience supporting high‑profile internal and external communications while helping ensure clear, engaging, and consistent messaging across the firm.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in, or recently graduated from, an accredited university or college.
  • Proficiency in Windows operating systems and in Microsoft office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills to interact with colleagues across departments.
  • Eagerness to learn, adapt, and gain exposure to global firm operations.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of client, firm and personnel information, and adhering to the Firm’s Core Values.

Responsibilities

  • Support day‑to‑day communications initiatives by assisting with drafting, editing, and preparing content for internal announcements, press releases, and digital platforms.
  • Conduct research and fact‑checking to support communications materials, helping ensure accuracy, consistency, and timely updates.
  • Help maintain communications trackers, calendars, and contact lists, providing essential organizational support for team projects and deadlines.
  • Analyze information and organize data using Excel, building practical skills with tools such as PivotTables and formulas to support reporting and communications metrics.
  • Collaborate with team members on a variety of projects and provide general administrative support, with opportunities to take on additional responsibilities as you grow in the role.
