The Intern, Benefits and Retirement Compliance supports the compliance and regulatory functions of TriNet-sponsored 401(k) and benefit plans. This role involves assisting with monitoring plan operations, reviewing documentation, researching regulations, and helping ensure that retirement and benefit plans (e.g., 401(k), multiple employer plans) comply with federal laws such as ERISA, IRS, and DOL requirements. The intern will work closely with compliance analysts, plan administrators, and the Legal and Compliance team.

Requirements

  • Junior or Senior undergrad or graduate students
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • A proactive team player who can work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with strong Microsoft Excel skills required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate with employees at all levels of the organization
  • A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace
  • Ability to adapt to a fast paced continually changing business and work environment while managing multiple priorities

Responsibilities

  • Track, calculate, and reconcile annual 401(k) plan client matching, profit-sharing, top-heavy, and safe harbor contributions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with plan provisions and regulations.
  • Support retirement plan audits by collecting, organizing, and submitting requested documentation and data.
  • Review and edit drafted articles and communications including but not limited to knowledge management articles, client and worksite employee communications and Summary Plan Descriptions to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Participates in the development of the Multiple Employer plan’s marketing, promotional and educational material and training.
  • Take ownership of high-impact projects to gain essential technical and business expertise.
  • Develop agility and problem-solving skills by tackling complex challenges and adapting to change.
