We look forward to learning more about you and reviewing your application! Position Summary: This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the intern will support Asset Management & Geographic Information System (GIS) departments by learning how to take skills they may have acquired in school related to their particular areas of interest and apply them in a professional setting. They will gain a better understanding of their roles in a global business setting and be better prepared to work in the future.

Requirements

  • Students must be currently enrolled in and have already completed two semesters in an undergraduate or graduate degree program
  • 2027/2028 graduation status preferred (undergrad junior/senior level)
  • May 2026 graduates are not eligible unless enrolling in graduate program in Fall 2026
  • Preferred educational background in one of the following: (Engineering including Industrial, Civil, Mechanic, Computer or Software Engineer), Data Sciences/Advanced Analytics, Information Systems/Computer Science, Business Management, Project Management or Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Students must either attend a Houston area college/university or have a permanent residence within a commutable distance
  • Students must be in good academic standing to apply for an internship; a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.7 is preferred
  • Students must be able to work throughout the established twelve-week (12) program dates
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access Database, Visio)
  • Basic knowledge of Database Concepts (Tables, Fields, Table Relationships, etc.)
  • Research and Data Collection techniques
  • Strong Analytical and Problem Solving
  • Strong Communication both Verbal & Written including Presentation & Public Speaking

Responsibilities

  • Asset Management Data Analysis Gather and collect existing data (Inspections & Maintenance)
  • Review and analyze content collected.
  • Aggregate & summarize the data.
  • Generate Visuals (Graphs, Charts, etc.), Reports and Outputs.
  • Produce recommendations for path forward in alignment with FICAP program in a presentation.
  • Risk Management Analytics (Business Intelligence – BI) Gather and collect Port risk information for projects.
  • Review, analyze and summarize content.
  • Create a simple database for identified risks.
  • Develop simple diagrams, charts, etc. for analyzing asset management risk information.
  • Generated Visuals, Reports, and other Outputs for end users/project managers.
  • Produce recommendation based on reviewed content in a presentation.
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Layer Analysis & Update Review critical GIS Geodatabase Layers/Feature Classes for completeness and accuracy comparing against latest Nearmap Aerial Imagery.
  • Identify gaps and errors in GIS Layer Features.
  • Review gaps and errors in the GIS Layer Features with the GIS Team and make recommendations.
  • Correct errors in the GIS Layer Features as agreed upon by the GIS Team.
  • Record and document changes made to the GIS Data for later Review and QA/QC.
  • Present common gaps and issues found and their corrections in a presentation.
  • Day to day activities Learning how the Port operates particularly in terms of Asset management and GIS.
  • Setting up meetings to coordinate activities with various Departments.
  • Engage with other Departments Staff (Maintenance, Operations, PCM, Risk, IT) for needed information.
  • Collecting and analyzing data collected.
  • Generating recommendations from the analysis of the data.
  • Preparing Reports and Presentations on the analyzed data.
  • Participate in team meetings, as a member of the team.
  • Work in company’s SharePoint site and appropriate company systems from which access is needed to perform duties above.
