About The Position

The Lansing Board of Water & Light (BWL) has an opening for an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Operations Intern in the Customer Operations Department. Position Summary: Job Type: Full-Time Summer Internship Dates: May 11, 2026 - August 07, 2026 Pay Rate: $22.00 per hour. The AMI Intern will support continuous improvement project work as well as day-to-day operations. The Customer Operations Intern will learn from, and be supervised by, a mentor of the AMI Department.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution with a focus on Computer, Data Science, Business, or a related field with junior or senior status during the summer of 2026.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Must be enrolled full time in an accredited school for fall 2026 term.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize PC to enter, retrieve and update customer information on BWL's Customer Information System, e.g., new service requests, account adjustments, deposits, billing account itemizations, etc.
  • Capital Project Utilize system data to maintain project work schedules, monitor completed jobs and assist with management of work assigned to field service.
  • Run reports for monthly dashboard reports and ensure accuracy of data
  • Monitor material orders - follow up and confirm lead times
  • Assist with AMI network troubleshooting to include site visits and updating records.
  • Assist with workspaces and files.
  • Document processes and create procedures, manuals, and training modules for associated tasks.
  • Maintain and purge data items per BWL's data retention policies.
  • Assist with project-related items.
  • Required to follow BWL Safety Manual and wear personal protective equipment for all field work.
  • Attends training and safety awareness and/or skills improvement as required by the BWL or government agency such as MIOSHA.
  • Expected to comply with all BWL policies and work rules.
  • Predictable and reliable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
