About The Position

Black Desert Resort is an ultra-premium destination resort located in Southern Utah, set among dramatic lava rock and desert landscapes. The resort features guest rooms, public spaces, pools, spas, restaurants, mechanical plants, and back-of-house facilities that require continuous maintenance and operational reliability. The Intermediate Engineer plays a critical on-site role in maintaining the safety, comfort, and functionality of resort facilities through hands-on technical expertise and independent problem-solving. The Intermediate Engineer is responsible for performing general and moderately complex maintenance and repair tasks across guest rooms, public areas, and mechanical systems throughout the resort. This role requires a solid working knowledge of building systems and increasing technical proficiency in areas such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems. The position works independently with minimal supervision, resolves maintenance issues in a timely manner, supports preventative maintenance programs, and contributes to a safe, well-maintained environment for guests and team members.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in commercial, hotel, or resort maintenance.
  • Demonstrated technical strength in one or more areas including HVAC/refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, or plumbing.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and electronic access control systems.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills when working in guest-facing areas.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple work orders and shifting priorities.
  • Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Pool Operator Certification (CPO) preferred or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance and repairs in guest rooms and public areas including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and hardware fixes.
  • Execute scheduled preventative maintenance on pumps, motors, water heaters, exhaust fans, and mechanical components.
  • Troubleshoot and independently resolve issues with HVAC units, refrigeration systems, and electrical circuits.
  • Support maintenance and daily inspections of pool and spa systems including chemical testing and pump operation.
  • Assist with installation, replacement, and repair of equipment, furniture, fixtures, and building components.
  • Monitor and document system performance using the Building Management System (BMS) and respond to alerts.
  • Program, troubleshoot, and support electronic key card access systems and lock maintenance.
  • Conduct daily mechanical rounds inspecting lighting, fire safety systems, chillers, and mechanical rooms.
  • Utilize resort systems such as Nuvola to log, track, and close work orders accurately and efficiently.
  • Respond promptly to in-room maintenance requests and operational support needs from other departments.
  • Maintain tools, inventory, and workshop spaces in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Assist in mentoring entry-level engineers and support departmental training initiatives.
  • Follow all safety procedures, policies, and engineering standards.
