Our Subject Matter Experts offer decades of experience working in the federal marketplace and the data visualization environment. The Intermediate Network Engineer supports mission-critical enterprise systems by contributing to special projects, responding to network-related incidents, and identifying opportunities for IT modernization. This role assists in data center activities, network documentation, traffic baselining, and collaborative incident investigations. As the engineer gains experience, they recommend modernization improvements that may evolve into new special projects or be transitioned to the enterprise engineering backlog.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field OR
  • Associate's degree with 2+ additional years of relevant IT experience OR
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required with 4+ additional years of directly related IT experience in lieu of a degree
  • 10+ years of experience in enterprise network engineering or network security
  • Experience with network and logging tools such as SolarWinds, Splunk, etc
  • Must hold a current DoD 8140 (or 8570) baseline certification at the IAT Level II or higher (e.g., CompTIA Security+)
  • U.S. Citizen with active TS/SCI clearance
  • Understanding of network technologies, protocols, and operations
  • History of successfully completed tasks and projects on schedule and within cost
  • Familiarity with network detection and performance tools such as ExtraHop, SolarWinds, and Splunk
  • Ability to correlate network behavior with system or application issues
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills to convey complex findings
  • Strong problem-solving skills and situational awareness during live troubleshooting or incident response

Responsibilities

  • Contributing engineering support to mission-critical technology initiatives, infrastructure improvements, and enterprise enhancements.
  • Assisting with the deployment, configuration, documentation, and validation of network systems across diverse project types.
  • Supporting efforts to improve network reliability, visibility, and operational effectiveness through structured project work.
  • Participating in cross-functional teams to implement solutions that strengthen enterprise readiness and align with modernization goals.
  • Maintaining accurate technical documentation, diagrams, and records for project-related changes and implementations.
  • Investigating network-related availability or security events alongside cybersecurity and IT operations teams.
  • Reviewing logs, basic packet captures, and monitoring alerts using enterprise tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Extra Hop, Splunk).
  • Assisting with troubleshooting routing, switching, configuration issues, and service degradations.
  • Documenting findings, actions, and recommendations for process improvement.
  • Recommending modernization ideas based on project participation and incident findings.
  • Documenting modernization suggestions with clear technical rationale and mission relevance.
  • Providing inputs that may become future special projects or move into the enterprise engineering backlog.
  • Supporting ongoing enhancements to monitoring, automation, and configuration management processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.
