About The Position

UPMC is looking for a Network Engineer Intermediate to join their team. This will be a hybrid role, mostly remote but will need to work ON-SITE in datacenter as required for server install/refresh/configuration as needed.
Description
Main responsibilities are to respond to and complete service tickets from the UPMC community that require new or changes to DNS/DHCP and IP Network services; to work at the direction of Sr. or Tech Lead on projects to support various hospital sites for new installs, and/or hardware and software upgrades. The Network Engineer position will be part of a strategic team responsible for Network Design, building and deploying data center infrastructure in a 24x7x365 environment. Key to this position will be a focus on process automation in a secure, high performance, highly available (99.9995), and fully resilient infrastructure across multiple data centers and core locations. The candidate must possess experience in networking and design and capable of working in a highly complex, dynamic environment.

Requirements

• Typically has 2+ years' experience with IP networking and large enterprise network designs through education or practical experience.
• Intermediate level competence in IP routing / switching technologies and protocols including TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, IPSEC, GRE and best practices, fault tolerant.
• Intermediate level knowledge of QoS and queueing theory.
• Conversant in IPv6 deployment methodologies, and IPv6 differences from IPv4.
• Experience in managing enterprise systems, applications and endpoints with tools.
• Excellent and rapid network trouble-shooting and resolve skill set.
• Collaborate with members of the engineering team on scaling.
• Experience maintaining a 24 x 7 x 365 network infrastructure.
• Experience in communication and collaborative technologies.
• Strong documentation skill set.
• Experience in a CMMI environment.
• Critical to understand IP Addressing/CIDR Notation.
• Demonstrated understanding of DNS/DHCP and IP Address Management principles and use in the UPMC Network.
• Programming/coding abilities in network tool platforms for automation and customization.

Responsibilities

• Combine and coordinate the tools, software and hardware to create a scalable, resilient, and responsive network.
• Evaluate and recommend new hardware platforms and services.
• Demonstrates working knowledge of the design, implementation, and scale of the corporate production network.
• Develop and implement guidelines for the deployment and management of the network data center infrastructure and cabling plant.
• Successfully completes projects, tasks, and initiatives by embracing a team-first approach. Shows the ability to adjust and be flexible to change by adapting approach when necessary. Mentors less experienced staff.
