About The Position

Intensive Support Services Specialists provide ongoing support services to youth and their families who are involved with the Youth Justice system. The goal of this service is for youth to remain in the community without committing further law violations and to provide rehabilitation services. Additionally, this service looks to provide structure and accountability for youth offenders aimed at reducing criminal behavior and building on the youth and family’s protective factors. As an employee of the Department of Social Services and Marathon County, you will play a crucial role in managing and safeguarding confidential and sensitive information. This position requires a high level of impartiality, integrity, neutrality, and confidentiality. Examples of Work Performed: The following duties are typical of this position. Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Human Services, Criminal Justice, or related field required.
  • Possession of a driver’s license and a driving record that meets County standards; OR ability to obtain reliable transportation.
  • Adhere to professional boundaries, ethics, confidentiality and privacy practices, policies of Marathon County Department of Social Services, procedures and regulations.
  • Think beyond the confines of traditional models to recognize opportunities and find new and better ways of doing things or provision of services.
  • Ability to develop individual and group programming.
  • Demonstrate the ability to facilitate group for youth and families along with facilitating family meetings.
  • Effectively and appropriately interact and communicate with others to build positive, constructive, professional relationships.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Ask questions and actively listen to better understand and build rapport.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional during crisis-related issues including possession of de-escalation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues, customers, and other team members.
  • Understand the County's and department's mission, core values, plans, and priorities for the future.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive work culture that fosters excellent customer service and teamwork.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance; works extra hours as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor Degree in a Human Services related field preferred.
  • Preferred 1-3 years of experience working with youth and families who are experiencing behavioral and mental health issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing support services to youth to promote rehabilitation and stability within their home and community based on their treatment plan.
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic case documentation.
  • Provide direct programming based on the individual needs of the youth such as anger management, healthy decision making, life skills, recreational interests and groups based on youth needs.
  • Provide GPS services, monitor schedules and violations, maintain equipment, maintain regular communication with the juvenile, family, referring social worker and collaterals.
  • Administer Urinalysis as requested by the social worker.
  • Communicate with schools on attendance issues or academic needs.
  • Participate in supervisory and team-based consultation regarding progress of cases assigned.
  • Provide transportation to children and/or their family to scheduled meetings.
  • Connect children and families with community resources.
  • Support parents and their youth through face-to-face contact, phone contact, and text contact.
  • Create individualized treatment plans for the youth assigned to this position, in collaboration with the Social Worker.
  • Court attendance as deemed necessary.
  • Provide oversight to the youth attending the Youth Opportunity Center when necessary.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.
