About The Position

The Instructor provides direct support and training to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, helping them develop essential life skills, foster independence, and engage in meaningful, goal-driven activities. The Instructor works closely with participants and an interdisciplinary team to plan and lead engaging activities such as cooking, art, exercise, and community outings. The Instructor also teaches key skills in areas like communication, social interaction, and personal safety. In addition to facilitating daily routines, the Instructor assists with personal care as needed, documents progress, and contributes to a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment that reflects Dayspring’s mission and commitment to person-centered care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Current and valid Pennsylvania Driver's License
  • Proof of age (minimum 21 years of age)
  • Clean Pennsylvania criminal check
  • Clean FBI background check
  • Proof of Exclusions
  • Ability to pass a urine drug screen, physical examination, and PPD/TB testing during pre-placement and periodic fitness-for-duty exams and drug screens according to policy.
  • Good expressive and receptive communication skills, both oral and written in English
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work the schedule as outlined
  • Reliable and professional
  • Ability to obtain and maintain agency-required credentials (e.g., CPR/First Aid/AED/BBP, medication administration, crisis intervention, incident management).

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care and supervision to individuals, adhering to individualized support plans (ISPs).
  • Lead both one-on-one and group-based instructional and recreational activities tailored to participants’ interests and learning needs.
  • Create, adapt, and implement activity plans and curriculum that align with participants’ Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and promote hands-on skill development (e.g., cooking, budgeting, personal care).
  • Promote personal development, self-advocacy, and independence through interactive learning experiences and positive reinforcement.
  • Facilitate structured community outings and volunteer experiences to foster social inclusion and real-world skill practice.
  • Support participants during community-based instruction, including transportation, shopping, and use of public services.
  • Encourage and support participants in forming community relationships and connections that enhance their sense of belonging and personal growth.
  • Monitor participant engagement and document attendance, progress, and behavioral observations accurately and timely in accordance with program requirements.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and organized program environment, following infection control and safety procedures at all times.
  • Support participants with personal care needs as required (e.g., handwashing, restroom assistance, mealtime setup) while maintaining dignity and privacy.
  • Transport participants safely to and from community activities, following all vehicle operation, safety, and supervision standards.
  • Maintain active communication with coworkers, supervisors, families/guardians, and professionals to ensure consistency of care and program continuity.
  • Follow emergency procedures and respond promptly to incidents or behavioral concerns according to training and policy.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold individual rights, choice, and respect in all program settings.
  • Participate in team meetings, staff development, and required trainings.
  • Comply with all agency policies, procedures, and applicable ODP/DHS, OSHA, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Encourage creativity and engagement through individualized and group programming.
  • Assist in planning and implementing special events, community outings, and holiday activities.
  • Maintain supplies, materials, and equipment in good condition.
  • Perform other duties as assigned consistent with training and role.
