About The Position

The overall purpose of the Education Coordinator is to provide lectures and training opportunities for Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program students in compliance with the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NACCLS) and the TN Medical Laboratory Board standards. They serve as the liaison between the program administration and other institutions involved in the clinical experience. The Education Coordinator will participate in teaching courses, evaluating student achievement, developing curriculum, developing policies and procedures, and assessing program outcomes.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science with ASCP-BOC generalist certification from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two to four years of recent clinical experience.
  • The position requires knowledge of education methods and administration as well as current National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science accreditation procedures and certification procedures.
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively and to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with others.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses as assigned in accordance with the catalog description and the approved course syllabus; Provide ongoing feedback, evaluate student performance, and maintain accurate student/course records. Travel to multiple clinical facilities/campuses as assigned. Maintain student-instructor ratio. Stay abreast of current developments in the teaching discipline. Engage in ongoing formal training to maintain and enhance professional, instructional, and administrative competencies, ensuring completion of the minimum required hours of annual professional development for continued NAACLS accreditation.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining clinical contracts. Assuring that all written contracts and/or letters of agreements between the educational institution and clinical site are signed and placements are established before assigning students. Maintaining student records as required by clinical facilities and accreditation standards. Maintain student-instructor ratio. Identify and develop new sites that best align with the Program's mission and philosophy. Facilitate ongoing communication with clinical sites and ensure that both sites and students complete evaluations.
  • Participate in program evaluation, assessment of program goals, and monitor outcomes as determined by the advisory board, faculty, and student feedback in conjunction with standards set forth by accreditation. Implement quality improvements as indicated. Assist in the documentation of program goals, feedback, outcomes, and evaluation.
  • Advise and mentor students about academic and career goals. Participate in the MLT program admission process. Participate in curricular and co-curricular activities within the college, as well as recruit potential Health Program students. Participate in graduation exercises and serve on college/departmental committees.
  • Assist the Program Director in preparing and maintaining the program budget, as well as in selecting and purchasing educational materials and equipment to meet program needs.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

  • Team player who contributes to the department and the division with new ideas and approaches, and uses professional development opportunities to expand instructional vision.

  • Considers the impact and efficiency of decisions prior to deciding on a specific course of action in deference to WSCC's benefactors and supporters.
