About The Position

Full-time 9-month academic position for an English Instructor. This is a full-time, benefited faculty position starting in Fall 2026. The faculty member will conduct their assignments and co-curricular college activities in a manner consistent with the philosophy and purpose of Aims Community College as stated in the school catalog. The primary purpose of the faculty member is to teach. The faculty member is also responsible for professional development and service to the college. The faculty member is responsible for delivering effective and high-quality English instruction and assessment in various English courses (listed in the position), continually refining and modernizing the curriculum so that it remains educationally sound and meets the high standards of Aims Community College, and developing curriculum as assigned. Duties also include working with the Department Chair to ensure curricular standards are met, maintaining currency in the faculty member’s field of expertise (adopting new teaching methodology as appropriate), participating in college committees, organizations, community service opportunities, developing and maintaining teaching materials that meet national and state accessibility standards, and participating in college efforts to enhance student persistence and retention and integrating liberal arts with career/technical (occupational) education. Faculty must be available to teach at various locations and times, be available to students outside of class, and utilize computer technology in instruction. They should support institutional goals, engage with external partners, and uphold the college's mission and commitment to student success. Additional responsibilities may be assigned by leadership.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in English or closely related degree (literature, teaching w/English emphasis, etc.) OR Master’s degree, including 15 graduate-level credit hours in the discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year of teaching college-level classes.
  • Experience teaching and supporting traditionally underserved student populations.
  • A demonstrated aptitude for developing course content and teaching in varied modalities: online, synchronous remote, traditional face-to-face, and blended (hybrid) versions of each.
  • Experience working with students who are demographically similar to Aims students.
  • Ability to teach using methodologies that support a student-centered learning environment.
  • Computer literacy and the ability to use computer technology in classroom/lab instruction.
  • A willingness to take classes in teaching methods, curriculum development, computer applications, or other coursework deemed necessary by the Department Chair, Academic Dean, or Program Director.
  • A positive attitude toward teaching courses in varied modalities, including online, synchronous remote, and traditional face-to-face.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with students to provide opportunities to learn, creating conditions that facilitate learning, and using techniques and methods that create a high probability that learning will occur.
  • Provide clear communication of information and promote learning through an effective learning environment.
  • Design, sequence, implement, and present experiences which promote student learning (both in-person & online), and design, develop, and implement tools, technologies, and procedures for assessing student-learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate in the development and implementation of diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments of learning for students.
  • Provide effective and high-quality instruction of the subject being taught.
  • Apply learning-centered educational practices such as creating and communicating clearly-defined outcomes for student learning.
  • Provide a diverse array of learning activities that directly tie to those defined outcomes.
  • Use assessment data to improve instruction and learning, and participate in an ongoing College-Wide dialogue about teaching and learning.
  • Develop and refine department curriculum as necessary to maintain currency in pedagogy and content
  • Adopt new teaching methodologies as appropriate.
  • Implement department, division, and/or institutional goals as assigned.
  • Be available to students for appointments, turn in grades on time, meet assigned classes.
  • Submit course syllabi and other required documents on time.
  • Manage the classroom facility.
  • Keeps accurate attendance and grade records.
  • Meet other professional obligations as stated in the Faculty Annual Plan and Evaluation.
  • Ensure that course materials meet federal and state standards (for example, accessibility standards)
  • Other Duties as Assigned.
  • Endeavors related to a faculty member’s teaching assignment that contribute to the discovery, dissemination, and practical application of knowledge and/or skill.
  • Acquire and/or maintain certification.
  • Attend conferences, workshops, and/or training appropriate to one’s field.
  • Complete coursework related to one’s teaching assignment.
  • Create teaching methodology and instructional design.
  • Other activities that contribute to keeping current in the content field.
  • Help the College meet the goals and objectives of its mission and strategic plan.
  • Fulfill College service requirements by making meaningful contributions on campus and/or to community service groups.
  • Participate in institutional and departmental recruitment and retention activities.
  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of textbooks and other resources and materials in one’s assigned area.
  • Serve on department, division, and institutional committees.
  • Assist in program and curriculum review, revision, and the development and assessment of learning.
  • Maintain classrooms and/or labs.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to embrace and apply the provisions of the College’s mission statement, purpose, philosophy, and commitment to diversity.
