About The Position

Professional Development Coordinator to lead and align our professional development initiatives with the college's core mission, vision, and values. The role will be responsible for designing and implementing evidence-based professional development programs that have a measurable impact on teaching, learning, and campus culture. This involves conducting needs assessments, setting clear goals, and evaluating outcomes to ensure continuous improvement. A key part of the role will be to promote broad-based ownership, engaging all members of our campus community-faculty, staff, administrators-in a collaborative approach to professional development. The role will also be instrumental in embedding a culturally responsive framework into our programs, integrating Indigenous knowledge, practices, and values in alignment with Hawai'i Papa O Ke Ao and the Ka'u reports. Ultimately, the role will help advance our Strategic Plan by ensuring that our professional development initiatives contribute directly to our excellence as an Indigenous-serving institution and to our overarching goal of student success and equitable outcomes.

  • Master's degree in any field offered at Kapi'olani Community College

Responsibilities

  • Aligns professional development (PD) opportunities with KapCC's strategic plan, program reviews, assessment of student learning, ACCJC and other accrediting standards, and PD advisory committee recommendations.
  • Establishes and chairs a PD Advisory Committee; facilitates open, ongoing communication and decision-making among faculty, staff, administrators, and lecturers.
  • Designs, implements, and continually refines PD programs based on best practices in pedagogy and job-related skill development.
  • In collaboration with the PD Advisory Committee and facilitators, determines the most effective delivery methods and scheduling (facilitator selection, space, timing) to maximize impact for target audiences.
  • Develops and delivers New Employee training that reflects KapCC values and strategic directions.
  • Represents KapCC for System PD activities
  • Curates and maintains up-to-date external PD opportunities available to Kapi'olani CC employees
  • Develops strategies and timelines to promote PD opportunities and scaffolds learning experiences across the college.
  • Plans, coordinates, and assists with the logistical aspects of PD events (venue, technology, materials, catering, if applicable).
  • Creates and disseminates training and promotional materials; maintain up-to-date PD webpages and communications.
  • Oversees PD resources, including purchasing, equipment, and supplies; manages available PD funds and monitor budgets.
  • Pursues additional resources (grants, partnerships, sponsorships) and evaluates consultants and vendors for PD needs.
  • Coordinates training delivery, including identifying optimal facilitators and evaluation metrics.
  • Implements ongoing PD programs for faculty, staff, administrators, and lecturers; assesses program effectiveness and uses results for continuous improvement.
  • Regularly convenes and facilitates PD activities, meetings, and retreats; responds to requests and recommendations for PD.
  • Monitors systems to track participation, activities, and outcomes; assesses the impact of PD opportunities on teaching effectiveness, student learning, and organizational performance.
  • Collects, analyzes, and reports quantitative and qualitative data; uses findings to refine offerings and demonstrates value to stakeholders.
  • Develops training and promotional materials; maintains professional development resources and documentation.
  • Promotes PD programs and opportunities through College channels; encourages professional engagement and sharing of best practices at conferences, symposiums, and online platforms.
  • Represents KapCC at external conferences and meetings related to PD; identifies external resources and consultants and recommends acquisitions.
  • Facilitates the sharing of PD experiences and learnings campus-wide to extend professional development impact.
  • Stays current with national PD and higher education trends; translates trends into KapCC-specific opportunities.
  • Other duties as assigned
