About The Position

Job Summary Provides clinical education and patient care at The Eye Institute (TEI) of Drexel University, including both the flagship location and satellite clinical facilities. Within the didactic curriculum, the faculty member contributes through lab and/or lecture instruction, based on their expertise, interests, and the needs of the program. This is non tenure track position. Essential Functions Provides clinical education to optometry students, residents, and others assigned to the Cornea and Specialty Contact Lens Service (CASCLS) and the Primary Care Service at The Eye Institute (TEI) and its satellite facilities. Provides feedback to students verbally during patient care, through daily patient encounter Meditrek log entries, to the chief of service for midterm and final evaluations, and attending grading meetings. (Essential) Participates in faculty meetings (3%), workshops, and development (10%) activities as appropriate. Responsible for accurate, timely medical record and Meditrek completion as well as compliance with the policies and procedures of the TEI Practice Manual and Drexel University. Other duties as assigned - Provides independent direct patient care as needed. Assists the chief of CASCLS in remediating struggling students as needed. Participates in clinical round tables before, during, or after clinical sessions. Participates in the education, mentoring, and evaluations of TEI residents when appropriate. Participates and organizes contact lens workshops as needed. Provides instruction in preclinical skills or contact lens labs with the possibility of other didactic assignments as appropriate, based on the needs of the program and interest of the faculty member. Participates with program directors and other faculty/staff in the planning, preparation, and implementation of integrated curricular content and clinical protocols. Participates in the Scholars Program as assigned

Requirements

  • Minimum of a PhD or Doctorate in Doctor of Optometry.
  • Minimum of Residency or 4 years equivalent experience.
  • Specialty contact lens experience
  • Eligible for faculty rank and professional staff appointment at TEI and PCO
  • Continuing faculty appointment is contingent on maintaining clinical privileges consistent with TEI credentialing policies and protocols and adhering to established compliance protocols

Nice To Haves

  • Experience 5 years preferred
  • Licenses/Certifications: Fellow/Diplomate, American Academy of Optometry
