About The Position

The Instructional Designer supports the strategic growth of eSpelman by designing, developing, and continuously improving high-quality online courses and programs for adult learners. This role collaborates closely with faculty, subject-matter experts, and internal stakeholders to create engaging, accessible, and outcomes-driven learning experiences for both credit-bearing and non-credit online offerings.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Learning Sciences, Higher Education, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience designing online courses for adult learners or higher education.
  • Proficiency with tools such as Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, Panopto, or similar.
  • Strong project management and collaboration skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a private or liberal arts college environment.
  • Experience with non-credit or workforce education programs.
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled instructional design tools.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and revise fully online and hybrid courses for adult learners using evidence-based instructional design practices.
  • Partner with faculty and subject-matter experts to align course content with learning outcomes, assessments, and institutional standards.
  • Develop learning activities, multimedia content, assessments, and rubrics that support learner engagement and success.
  • Utilize learning management systems such as Canvas, Blackboard, or Moodle.
  • Apply accessibility standards ( ADA , WCAG 2.1) and Quality Matters or comparable frameworks.
  • Provide training and support to faculty on instructional technologies and online pedagogy.
  • Use learner data and feedback to recommend continuous improvements.
