Position Summary The Instructional Designer supports the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of technical training for USA Compression operations, maintenance, and safety. This role partners with subject matter experts (SMEs), field technicians, and other teams to design high quality learning materials. The ideal candidate combines strong instructional design methodology with a solid understanding of gas compression, rotating equipment, natural gas operations, or related oil & gas field environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of instructional design experience, preferably in technical or industrial training.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning theory, methodologies, and competency based training.
  • Experience designing content for field technicians, mechanics, or operators.
  • Proficiency with eLearning authoring tools and Microsoft 365 applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics clearly.
  • Experience and interest in taking photos and videos in field environments.

Responsibilities

  • Assist SME’s in designing and developing training for gas compression systems, mechanical maintenance, electrical/instrumentation fundamentals, and operational workflows.
  • Create engaging, learner centered materials including eLearning modules, instructor led training (ILT), virtual instructor led training (vILT), microlearning, job aids, and simulations.
  • Write clear learning objectives, assessments, and performance based outcomes aligned to technical competencies and field requirements.
  • Ensure training content reflects current industry best practices, regulatory standards, OEM recommendations, and company procedures.
  • Work closely with SMEs, field trainers, and operations leaders to gather technical information and translate it into accessible learning content.
  • Facilitate design walkthroughs, content reviews, and validation cycles with stakeholders.
  • Support field trainers and instructors by providing facilitator guides, labs, and hands-on assessments.
  • Assist with facilitation of ILT or blended learning sessions as needed.
  • Evaluate learner performance through knowledge checks, practical assessments, and skills demonstrations.
  • Support onboarding curriculum for new technicians in operations, maintenance, and compression support roles.
  • Maintain and version-control all training content to ensure accuracy and alignment with equipment updates, safety requirements, and evolving operational procedures.
  • Apply adult learning theory, instructional design best practices, and modern learning technologies.
  • Develop standardized templates, visuals, and documentation tools to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Utilize Learning Management Systems (LMS) for course deployment, tracking, and reporting.
  • Use authoring tools (e.g., Articulate 360, Storyline, Rise, Captivate, Camtasia, Adobe Suite) to produce multimedia rich content.
  • Experience with photography or videography and editing.
