Instructional Designer
About The Position
Avalara is seeking an Instructional Designer to create performance-driven learning experiences that enhance revenue productivity and operational excellence within its Enablement organization. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to transform complex tax, product, and sales concepts into clear, measurable learning solutions. The Instructional Designer will also be responsible for developing scalable certification and capability programs to support global Go-To-Market (GTM) teams and foster measurable skill adoption. The position is remote and reports to Enablement Leadership as part of the Learning Strategy & Design team. Avalara is an AI-first company, and success in this role requires embracing AI as an essential capability, applying AI daily to business challenges, and staying curious about new AI trends and best practices.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience designing instructional solutions in a corporate environment.
- Demonstrated expertise applying outcome-based design methodologies and writing measurable learning goals.
- Advanced PowerPoint, with the ability to simplify complex material into clear frameworks and executive-ready presentations.
- Experience developing eLearning using authoring tools such as Articulate 360 or similar platforms.
- Practical experience using AI tools to accelerate content development, scenario creation, or workflow efficiency.
- Proficient writer who can translate complex ideas into clear learning content and deliver high-quality work
Responsibilities
- conduct performance and learner analysis; define measurable goals using Backwards Design and Action Mapping principles.
- develop eLearning, instructor-led workshops, certification materials, and executive-ready PowerPoint presentations that simplify complex information into structured, visually compelling content.
- collaborate with SMEs to translate expertise into clear learning assets, aligned assessments, and performance support tools.
- measure program effectiveness using learner data and evaluation models; iterate based on insights.
