About The Position

The Instructional Designer at Walsh University is responsible for providing design expertise and online course production assistance to faculty and staff. This position includes working collaboratively with various stakeholders on campus to design, develop, implement, maintain, and evaluate curriculum and courses for electronic learning using sound instructional design practices. The Instructional Designer will coordinate the use of multimedia, video, audio and other emerging technologies to create interactive, engaging learning activities and compelling course content. This position requires management of the instructional development process, setting standards for faculty in designing curriculum and instruction resources, and working with peer-to-peer review organizations to ensure adherence to industry best practices while maintaining Walsh core values. The Instructional Designer will carry responsibility for ensuring the University’s learning management system is properly maintained. This position also includes assisting with faculty training and mentorship programs in a variety of formats related to the development and delivery of Walsh eLearning programs.

Requirements

  • Must demonstrate an understanding the Walsh University Statement of Faith and a commitment to support the Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Ethical Conduct of Walsh University in accordance with Ex Corde Ecclesiae and the Catholic intellectual tradition.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, curriculum and instruction, distance education, instructional technology, instructional design, adult/continuing education, educational leadership, or related fields.
  • Work Experience: Experience in education and/or electronic learning in an academic setting.
  • Skills and abilities: Professional demeanor and ability to interact with charity towards students, staff and faculty. Positive attitude a must.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects on various timelines.
  • Comprehensive understanding of educational methodologies, curriculum development, and backward design.
  • Demonstrated success of working in or with an academic environment.
  • Working knowledge of modern distance education technologies and tools.
  • Understanding of outcome assessment and continuous quality improvement.
  • Working knowledge of various Learning Management Systems (LMS) preferred (Canvas, D2L, Blackboard, Sakai, Moodle, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with faculty to create high-quality, engaging learning activities and compelling course content.
  • Provide expertise on design of curriculum and online courses
  • Interface with instructors in order to understand concerns, explain technology in teaching strategies, and offer creative high-impact techniques and technology-enabled teaching solutions
  • Train subject matter experts to develop online coursework and both faculty and adjuncts on delivery of online coursework
  • Maintain project documentation and course folders for course development and maintenance oversight of online courses and programs
  • Collaborate with Walsh’s Information Systems department to ensure appropriate technical support during course development and delivery.
  • Build coalitions and eLearning programs with diverse constituencies, both internally and externally.
