About The Position

Position will be hybrid but candidate must live in close proximity and be available to be onsite for frequent meetings. The Instructional Designer serves as a consultant, educator and facilitator for the development of on-line content. Acts as a strategic partner working with departments to create instructional sound content that meets their academic and business objectives. Develops and maintains a thorough knowledge of e-learning/operational processes and how they are implemented or configured in Blackboard. Researches, evaluates and recommends instructional technology opportunities and determines the most efficient and effective means of course and content delivery. Collaborates with program directors, faculty and subject matter experts to select, design, develop and implement quality learning activities, including providing development to faculty in the design, development and delivery of quality learning activities utilizing instructional technology. Develops and maintains appropriate training material and documentation related to instructional technology. Walks project stakeholders through the draft design and subsequently creates a final design based on stakeholder feedback. Develops engaging, interactive learning modules utilizing the latest technology and media such as web-based, CD, video and pod casting. Follows appropriate e-learning standards/guidelines using tools such as Captivate, Camtasia, Dreamweaver, Articulate, Photoshop, Softchalk, etc. Ensure the timely delivery of synchronous and asynchronous content. Review courseware deliverables to ensure instructional soundness Identify and troubleshoot course error messages and problems. Deploy web-based e-learning content via Carilion’s LMS. Requirements

  • Three to five years of instructional design experience required, with demonstrated experience in designing and delivering online and instructor-led classes.
  • Must have advanced skills in Microsoft Word and Powerpoint.
  • Valid Virginia drivers' license and dependable transportation.
  • Must possess excellent customer service and written/verbal communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking and interpersonal skills.
  • Must work well in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness and ability to work on multiple tasks/projects while meeting deadlines and being flexible in an environment of changing priorities.
  • Master's degree preferred in education and/or instructional technology or comparable years of experience in lieu of degree required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in video production and editing, Cornerstone on Demand and In Design preferred.
  • Experience in various design software such as Captivate and Storyline.
  • Relevant training certification preferred, such as C.P.L.P.
