About The Position

California Western School of Law is seeking a collaborative and innovative Instructional Design & Systems Administrator to join our Education Technology team. Reporting to the Associate Director for Educational Technology & Strategic Initiatives, this role serves as the primary administrator of the Canvas LMS system and the main point of contact for vendor-related support and system optimization. The position plays a critical role in supporting and enhancing the institution’s learning technology ecosystem, including integrated tools such as Panopto, Zoom, Turnitin, Qwickly, Watermark, and a forthcoming custom SIS. This individual will work to advance effective instructional design, promote student engagement, and develop training resources that support excellence in teaching and learning. This is an on-campus position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with major in Instructional Design or related area of study with at 4-6 years of LMS administration desired.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends.
  • Must have familiarity with best practices and adult learning theory/principals.
  • This position regularly works with faculty and staff on LMS related projects. Impeccable interpersonal and customer service skills are required.
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as organization and time management skills.
  • Must have strong ability to organize, prioritize, and work toward multiple goals at the same time.
  • Must be detail oriented. Capable of carrying out a given task with all details necessary to get the task done well.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytic, and troubleshooting skills required.
  • Experience with videoconferencing, video capture and video content management software such as Panopto and Zoom.
  • Advance level computer skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365, including Outlook and Teams.
  • General Internet skills are essential.
  • Intermediate to advanced MS-Excel ability required.
  • Familiarity with MS Active Directory.
  • Aptitude for learning new technology.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in higher education strongly preferred.
  • Canvas Certified Administrator preferred, or willing to take certification course.

Responsibilities

  • Act as main learning management administrator, including evaluating feedback to continuously iterate and improve upon content.
  • Monitor and maintain Canvas environment including but not limited to: Templates, Term Calendars, Accessibility dates, monitoring/managing updates
  • Creation of course shells each term.
  • Manage user accounts and enrollments, primarily via SIS imports.
  • Ensure maximum utilization of LMS and plan/implement updates, improvements and new features.
  • Manage integration with other applications, currently: Zoom, Panopto, Watermark, Qwickly, Turnitin, Intedashboard and Examplify.
  • Maintain “special case” courses each term
  • Regularly update student facing department pages.
  • Present group training sessions as needed.
  • Ensure consistency in e-learning experience and design.
  • Act as primary contact for all LMS vendor issues and concerns, liaison with vendor for issue resolution.
  • Process and track learning requests via ticketing system, including formal training requests and daily "help" requests.
  • Keep up to date on LMS skills as well as other forms of learning technology.
  • Develop and produce LMS analytical data reports as requested.
  • Train new faculty/staff Canvas users.
  • Maintain training content library/website (Lib Guides) ensuring regular updates for relevance.
  • Apply adult learning theories to write engaging and relevant instructional materials (web-based and instructor-led).
  • Help develop team members in additional training on instructional design methodologies and learning tools.
  • Develop professional working relationships with departments across the organization.
  • Work with Ed Tech staff in ticket and software management, as well as setup and support of classrooms/meeting rooms as needed.
  • Participate in department meetings and other committees, groups, and task forces as assigned.
  • Work with appropriate level of assistance, instruction and supervision.
  • Proactively advise supervisor of project status, potential issues and overall work progress.
  • Perform, with team approach, other duties as assigned.
