About The Position

The Department of Politics and Government invites applications for a full-time, one-year, non-tenure track appointment as an Instructional Assistant Professor for Academic Year 2026-2027. Subject to funding and department need, the position may be renewed annually. Applicants for the position in the Department’s Political Science program should specialize in American Politics and be able to teach undergraduate research methods. ABD in Political Science is required; applicants with PhD in hand at the time of the appointment are preferred. The teaching load is 4 courses a semester (3 preparations). This position will be assigned one large section of introductory research methods each semester (with graduate teaching assistant support), counting toward 2 courses in the teaching load, and two other upper-level American politics courses to be determined by department curricular needs and faculty expertise. The successful candidate will also have access to travel support for participation in professional conferences and a modest amount for support of research. The Department of Politics and Government offers majors in Political Science and in Legal Studies. We maintain 15-20 tenure/non-tenure track faculty members annually while serving roughly 425 majors, 120 minors, and 18 master’s degree students. We offer classes in the following areas: American Government, Comparative Politics, International Relations, Political Theory, and Research Methodology. Legal Studies courses are geared to help students prepare for legal careers as attorneys and paralegals.
