About The Position

This position will analyze complex plans and perform independent complex technical assignments to inspect, monitor, and report on the work activities being performed on the state of Florida roads, bridges and right of way.

Requirements

Knowledge of engineering tools to perform field inspections of worksites for compliance to Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) roadway standards
Skill in communicating technical information verbally and in writing

High School Diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency, Class E Driver License, and 12 months of infrastructure design, construction, or maintenance experience; or an Associate’s Degree or higher.
This position requires a valid Class E driver license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with the Department’s Driver’s Record Requirements Policy. An unacceptable driving record is defined as any of the following: three (3) or more moving violations in the past three (3) years that accumulate three (3) or more points per violation; any two (2) convictions of reckless driving in the past three (3) years; a suspension or revocation of the driver license for moving violations in the past three (3) years; and a suspension or revocation for refusal to take a sobriety test, or any suspension or revocation for a DUI conviction, in the past four (4) years.

Responsibilities

Analyze complex plans and perform independent complex technical assignments to accomplish inspection and monitoring of work activities performed within the state Right of Way. Verify that work is performed according to all State and Federal specifications, plans, permits, policies, procedures, statutes, rules. Performs approved testing techniques through the use of hand tools, gauges and/or instruments to ensure materials used conform to Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) requirements. Use various engineering tools, equipment, Instruments and computers for performing technical engineering tasks, problem solving and record keeping. Provide information to consulting engineers, developers, architects and permit applicants as needed. Prepares all documentation in order to validate payments to roadway contractors
Perform interpretation of documents related to authorized Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic) device usage, installation/placement and materials to ensure safe work zones. Reviews work site activities for conformity to safety regulations and takes corrective measures when deficiencies are noted.
Conducts surveys of signs, guardrail, and attenuators as required by procedures. Provides survey of roadway items to be inventoried for Roadway Characteristics Inventory (RCI). Fills out data coding sheet and enters roadway data into computer database as needed. Gathers data and performs preliminary reviews for maintenance contract needs. Assists in the preparation of maintenance contracts. Prepares specifications as needed for use in maintenance contracts.
Conducts/attends pre-work conferences on maintenance contracts and attends/conducts meetings with contractors/utility owners/permitees throughout life of projects as assigned. Acts as a representative of the Department on all issues related to contracts and permits. Issues work documents on contracts as directed. Prepares and issues work documents on contracts as needed.
Performs plans reviews for constructability and adherence to Department standards and specifications. Provides comments on Department policies and procedures as requested.
