About The Position

Whirlpool is currently seeking qualified candidates for an Analyst, Engineering, opening to join our Central Manufacturing Engineering Group (CME). The position can be located at our Clyde Manufacturing Site. Whirlpool is looking for an experienced Injection Molding & Process Engineer who will be a key contributor to the Central Manufacturing Engineering team, focusing on optimizing the injection molding process to consistently achieve superior quality for A-Class surface plastic components. This role is crucial for driving process stability, reducing defects, and implementing best practices in molding technology. The analyst will leverage data and technical expertise to analyze process performance, support new equipment and tooling qualification, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to uphold the highest quality standards for customer-facing parts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in an injection molding manufacturing environment, process analysis and quality control

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering , Plastics, Mechanical or Industrial
  • In-depth knowledge of the injection molding process, including material science, tooling, and machine setup
  • Proven experience working with high-gloss/A-Class surface plastic parts and a clear understanding of the defects (e.g., sink, flow lines, blush) that compromise aesthetic quality
  • Proficiency in statistical process control (SPC) and capability analysis (Cpk/Ppk)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach
  • Excellent written and verbal communication for technical reporting and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Proficiency in using quality software (e.g., Minitab) and manufacturing execution systems

Responsibilities

  • Quality and Defect Analysis: Analyze molding process data to identify and eliminate root causes of aesthetic and functional defects on A-Class surface parts
  • Conduct Cpk studies and process capability analysis to ensure Critical Characteristics (CC) and High Impact Characteristics (HIC) meet or exceed the required standards (e.g., Cpk ≥ 2.00 for CC)
  • Work with Metrology and Quality teams to develop and implement inspection methods for verifying defect-free, customer-facing surfaces
  • Process Optimization and Improvement: Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), and Mean Time to Repair (MTTR) for injection molding cells
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase cycle time efficiency and reduce scrap, specifically targeting complex, high-cavitation, or stack molds
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives in material handling, drying, and thermal control to ensure optimal molding conditions.
  • New Program and Tooling Support: Provide technical support during the design, procurement, and qualification of new injection molds and auxiliary equipment (e.g., resin handling systems, thermolators)
  • Collaborate with mold builders and suppliers (e.g., Mold-Masters or resin system vendors) during the tooling design review and runoff process
  • Participate in equipment runoffs and acceptance tests to ensure compliance with all technical, safety, and quality specifications
  • Documentation and Training: Develop and maintain standardized work instructions and control plans for injection molding processes
  • Train and mentor technicians and operators on best practices for A-Class surface molding and quality checks
