A High School Internship at The Hartford Financial Services Company offers valuable exposure to a real world Fortune 200 environment where students build relevant skills, strengthen core competencies, and gain insight into the fast paced world of corporate information technology. Each intern is paired with an experienced IT mentor who guides their learning and helps them explore innovative technology services. What You Can Expect An inclusive, supportive, structured, and rewarding internship experience New Intern Orientation with computer, application, and system training Meaningful assignments that enhance customer service, strengthen IT stability, and support compliance Dedicated mentorship and structured feedback Scheduled sessions with senior executive leaders across The Hartford Functional Team You’ll work within our Infrastructure Agentic AI team, alongside experienced engineers who will guide you as you learn how modern AI tools work behind the scenes and how they can make a real impact in the world of infrastructure and reliability engineering. You’ll learn how to build simple AI agents that can solve practical problems—like helping fix issues faster or making everyday tech tasks easier for engineers. Throughout the role, you’ll experiment, try new ideas, and grow your skills in coding, automation, and AI decision making. making.

Requirements

  • Curiosity, willingness to learn, and a positive problem-solving attitude
  • Comfortable to able to ask questions and share progress openly with a small team.
  • Reliable transportation required for onsite work
  • Must meet State employment eligibility requirements and successfully complete a background check

Nice To Haves

  • High performers in this role that would stand out would be ones that take initiative, try new approaches, and aren’t afraid to experiment or learn from mistakes.
  • Exposure to basic programming languages like Python or JavaScript, and developer tools like VS Code and Github are a plus
  • Technology related curriculum preferred
  • Teacher recommendations preferred
  • Participation in school clubs, extracurricular activities, community programs, or volunteer initiatives preferred

Responsibilities

  • Spend time exploring what agentic AI is, how it works, and where it can help in real-world tech environments
  • Learn how to use AI safely and responsibly by understanding model limits, testing outputs, and making sure results are accurate and reliable.
  • Shadow Engineers on Daily Operations
  • Work with mentors to design and build a basic AI agent that can perform a simple infrastructure or reliability task
  • Write clear documentation, diagrams, or short guides explaining how tools work, what was learned, and how solutions were built
  • Build a presentation or demo showing your AI agent, what you learned, and what value it was able to bring to the enterprise
