About The Position

Under the direction of the Infrastructure Operations Manager, an Information Technology (IT) Manager I, the IT Specialist I (Cloud and Server Administrator) works independently and as part of a team to manage, monitor, and maintain the California High-Speed Rail Authority (Authority) cloud-based infrastructure. The Cloud and Server Administrator also supports on-premise and virtual servers, the virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), and storage and backup services and solutions. The incumbent must maintain accurate documentation and be highly responsive to the needs of the business and its end users. You will find additional information about the job in the Duty Statement.

Requirements

  • A Statement of Qualification (SOQ) is required for this position. The SOQ must be no more than three (3) pages, single spaced, with one-inch margins, in size 12-point font, organized and numbered as reflected below. The SOQ must discuss the applicant's applicable experience as it pertains to each item below. A Resume is required but does not take the place of the SOQ.   • Describe and provide examples of your experience administering Amazon Web Services (AWS) environments. Include specific services you worked with (compute, storage, IAM, load balancers, etc.) and your role. If you do not have AWS experience, please provide examples with other cloud providers.
  • Describe and provide examples of your experience with cloud monitoring solutions. Include the infrastructure environment, specific tools, types of dashboards and alerts configured, and your role in monitoring and responding to outputs. Describe any challenges with the monitoring tool(s) or alerts triggered.
  • Provide a detailed example of a critical infrastructure incident you worked on from detection through resolution. Describe the steps you took to identify and resolve the problem. Include the tools or other methods used and your communication and engagement with stakeholders during the incident.

Nice To Haves

  • Possess Amazon Web Services (AWS)/Google Cloud Platform (GCP)/Microsoft Azure Associate or Professional Certification.
  • Demonstrated experience (two years or more) maintaining cloud environments.
  • Experience with cloud computing platforms such as AWS/GCP/Azure.
  • Experience with cloud networking.
  • Experience building environments utilizing IaC.
  • Experience with creating custom monitoring and alerting dashboards.
  • Experience with scripting methods, such as PowerShell or similar tools, to automate tasks.
  • Experience managing virtual servers and desktops, such as VMware ESXi, vCenter, Horizon View VDI, and Amazon Workspaces.
  • Experience leading projects or infrastructure-related initiatives.
  • Ability to prepare and produce clear and concise documentation (e.g., processes and procedures, technical diagrams, plans, policies, etc.).
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all levels of staff, management, and vendor partners; communicate effectively with peers, end users, other technical staff, management, and partners.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced achievement-oriented environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information in a manner easily understood by non-technical stakeholders and end users.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
