About The Position

The Iowa Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking to fill an Information Technology Specialist 2 position within its Iowa State Patrol Division. DPS is comprised of the following divisions: Iowa State Patrol Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement Iowa State Fire Marshal Division of Professional Development and Support Services Division of Intelligence and Fusion Center Administrative Services Division Job Description: Responsible for daily operations of the Remote Service Center (RSC) for the Iowa State Patrol. Facilitate after hours Remote Support for all Iowa State Patrol technology equipment and software needs. Asset management of Mobile Data Terminals (MDT) for equipment life-cycles, which includes issuance, planning, procurement, acquisition, operational maintenance, and disposition of surplus property. Oversight of warranty repair authorizations on equipment in need of manufacture repairs, and manage all equipment through the RMA process to ensure it is returned to the Iowa State Patrol. Perform monthly monitoring to ensure Mobile Data Terminals (MDTs) are utilizing the latest operational software and imaging available. Other duties as assigned to meet the operational needs of new and evolving technology. Support the daily utilization of the Traffic and Criminal Software (TraCS) and Mobile Architecture for Communications Handling (MACH) within the Iowa State Patrol. This includes set up of TraCS and MACH user accounts, passwords, and ensuring the latest software updates are distributed to the end user within the Iowa State Patrol. Other related duties include the installation, configuration, customization, updating, trouble shooting, and repair of companion applications integrated for the end users job performance. Support of Digital Video Evidence collection and storage for the Iowa State Patrol. Ensure all issued video and audio equipment is operating at peak performance, utilizing integrated software and web-based platforms. Monitor digital evidence retention periods to ensure compliance with the Iowa State Patrol policies and procedures. Configuration, deployment, and monitoring of LTE Wireless Solutions for optimal performance of digital video evidence transfer through Virtual Private Networking (VPN) to on premise or cloud-based storage servers. Responsible for installation and management of computer disablement software on Mobile Data Terminals (MDT). Support the Iowa State Patrol Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) program. Monitor the initial setup, deployment and asset tracking within web-based portals. Assist with the manufacture warranty repair authorization process (RMA).

Requirements

  • Candidates must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation conducted by the Iowa Department of Public Safety investigators before a final letter of employment offer is delivered.
  • Experience equal to two years of full-time work: operating a multi-job computer; installing, operating and coordinating computer based networks; installing/maintaining database management systems; developing business application processes; developing/operating system programs; installing/maintaining personal computers, Local Area Networks and/or servers; managing operating systems; developing/ delivering information management training; providing Information Technology (IT) customer service; or designing/administering Internet sites;
  • completion of an approved curriculum/specialized training program developed and implemented by or in cooperation with state government;
  • twelve semester hours of accredited post high school education in one of the specialty areas listed in the first clause above;
  • certification by an authorized educational institution/major computer or software producer in an area directly related to one of the specialty areas listed in the first clause above may be substituted for one year of the required experience;
  • an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting thirty semester hours of education for six months of experience;
  • employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to six months of full-time work as an Information Technology Specialist 1.
