About The Position

The Information Technology Specialist 2 in the Database Unit functions primarily as the Administrator of the Oracle and MS SQL Server databases, assisting with backup and recovery, troubleshooting, migrations, and security enforcement while adhering to ITIL best practices and ServiceNow workflows. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, customer-focused, and eager to learn advanced database administration skills. This position requires occasional overtime work on weekends and outside of normal business hours during the week. Requirements

  • Reachable on the Civil Service eligible list
  • Eligible for reassignment by virtue of having permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 2 (SG-18)
  • Eligible for transfer under the provisions of the Civil Service Law by virtue of having one year of permanent competitive service in an appropriate title

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of Oracle and SQL Server Database Administration
  • Basic familiarity with the Linux and Windows operating systems
  • Experience working with at least some of the following products: Oracle Enterprise Manager, Oracle RMAN, SQL Developer, SQLPLUS, DBArtisan, Putty, WinSCP, SQL Server Management Studio
  • Basic knowledge of T-SQL and/or PL/SQL
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to providing exceptional customer service

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the execution of backup, recovery, and other database procedures
  • Test and execute procedures for restoring the database system
  • Perform migrations of database objects from lower environments into QAT and PRD
  • Create and modify databases as needed; create new instances for upgrades and testing
  • Modify initialization parameters and settings as recommended by vendors
  • Assist developers with SQL and performance issues; create and implement triggers, procedures, and permissions as needed
  • Address database-related help desk tickets (password resets, permission grants, etc.)
  • Assist with applying database patches and performing database upgrades
  • Enforce database security; create and maintain database privileges and roles
  • Perform periodic database user audits
  • Log and resolve incidents and service requests in ServiceNow; meet SLA targets
  • Participate in change management for patches, upgrades, and migrations
  • Update CMDB entries for database servers and instances
  • Contribute to knowledge base articles and SOPs
  • Maintain accurate configuration records and update documentation
  • Monitor capacity and report growth trends
  • Stay current with Oracle, SQL Server, and ITIL best practices
  • Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams on deployments
  • Participate in disaster recovery drills and document outcomes
  • Support compliance with audit and security standards
