About The Position

Perform or assist in performing technical activities related to writing instructions (code), application program development, program and system testing, and business/systems analysis and design related to computer systems, systems maintenance and implementation in such areas as the design and development of database systems; dynamic, transactional, or interactive web sites; and agency-specific application programs.

Requirements

A bachelor's or higher-level degree, including or supplemented by 15 credit hours in computer science courses.
A bachelor's or higher-level degree in any field and at least one year of the experience in information technology.
A minimum of 60 college semester credit hours including at least 15 credit hours in computer science courses and one year of the experience in information technology.
A total of two years of experience in information technology.
You must be currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title, eligible under the 55 b/c program, or eligible to transfer to this title under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.
You must be a qualified employee of the Office of the New York State Comptroller and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Information Technology Specialist 1 Programing.
For 52.6 transfer to a(n) Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming), salary grade (SG)-18, you must have one year of permanent competitive, or 55-b/55-c service in an approved title for transfer allocated to an SG-16 or above.

Responsibilities

Performing program maintenance.
Debugging/resolving program problems, including troubleshooting application software for user/system problem resolution.
Developing program control scripts (such as JCL, ECL, UNIX, Shell script, NT batch commands, VB scripts, SMS).
Writing programming instructions (code) in an object-oriented language, such as Java.
Writing programming instructions (code) in a procedural language, such as COBOL.
Writing programming instructions (code) for communications interfaces with other software.
Writing programming instructions (code) in any other specific programming language type.
Preparing functional specifications that define the system being proposed to meet business requirements.
Documenting workflow processes.
Researching and/or consulting to ascertain the software or hardware solutions necessary to meet the customers' needs.
Analyzing end-user requests for information and create "ad hoc" reports from various databases using query tools.
