About The Position

The New York State Police Dedicated ITS Support team is responsible for supporting homegrown and commercial business applications for the New York State Police. The team is responsible for managing many critical applications 24 x 7. Under the general direction of a Manager Information Technology Services 1, SG-27, within the New York State Police Bureau, the Information Technology Specialist 2 will work and participate in a team environment providing software development and support of the NYSP homegrown business applications. This is an entry-level software development. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Develop (code), deploy, support, and enhance custom applications written in Java, Grails, ColdFusion, or other programming languages Design data models, databases, and write and test SQL scripts Develop and maintain web-based application UI's using JavaScript, AJAX, jQuery and Bootstrap Design, develop and maintain web services and a viable web services architecture Deploy solutions on various server platforms (JBoss, WAS, TomCat, IIS, ColdFusion, etc.) Assist with the development and support of the source code repository and continuous integration environment for the application development team. Participate in code reviews and ensure code meets architecture, programming and UI/UX standards Participate in application design reviews Estimate time and resource needs for new projects Participate in defining standards and performing code reviews, and will perform all work in accordance with architecture, programming, and user experience standards.

Requirements

  • Open Competitive: A bachelor's or higher-level degree including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science.
  • OR
  • A bachelor's or higher-level degree in any field and one year of experience in information technology;
  • OR
  • 60 semester credit hours including or supplemented by 15 semester credit hours in computer science and one year of professional experience in information technology.
  • OR
  • Two years of professional experience in information technology.
  • Promotion: Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 1, Salary Grade (SG) 14.
  • Transfer: Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 2 or Information Technology Specialist 2 Programming, SG-18; OR in a title SG-16 or above deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law.
  • 55b/c Appointment: This position is eligible for 55b/c designation and candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Appointment to this position and continued employment with the agency is contingent upon obtaining and/or maintaining New York State residency within six months of hiring.
  • Appointment to this position is not final until all agency approvals have been granted.
