About The Position

The St. Louis Public Library’s Buder Branch has an opening for a full-time Information Specialist. The Library values the talents and perspectives that a diverse workforce brings and how this positively impacts our services and customer base. We seek people who understand these values to join our team.  Our ideal candidate is someone who will connect the community to our resources to further our primary mission as a customer-centered public library providing vital services to the people of St. Louis.  The Information Specialist is enthusiastic, patient, and committed to providing excellent customer service and is comfortable working with the public and providing technology-related assistance.

Requirements

  • Friendly, patient, and able to build relationships at all levels.
  • Able to see the big picture and promote consistency and excellence of service.
  • Capable of effectively presenting information and responding to questions from customers and staff
  • Flexible, positive, and willing to work with staff and colleagues to successfully overcome challenges.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work with competing tasks and priorities.
  • At least six months of customer service-related experience, or an associate’s degree, or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
  • Strong communication, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • The ability to complete the training to become a passport acceptance agent.
  • Ability to learn and use technology as the Library continues to evolve
  • Comfort with presenting to various audiences in order to execute unique and exciting events.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers with library card registration and checking out and returning library materials.
  • Assist in preparation, delivery, and receipt of Library materials; receive payment from customers.
  • Provide technology assistance to customers with Library equipment.
  • Assist with daily housekeeping operations, projects, and opening and closing of the building
  • Assist with programming as needed.
  • Assist customers with Passport Applications upon completion of training.
  • Assist customers with reference questions, utilizing the online catalog, and providing reader’s advisory services.
