About The Position

Under general direction of the IT Director will support the daily operation, maintenance, and security of the City’s technology systems. This entry-level role is with solid technical aptitude, a service-oriented mindset, and a desire to grow in the IT field. The IT Specialist provides technical support to end users, troubleshoots hardware and software issues, maintains workstations and mobile devices, and assists in the upkeep of network infrastructure and system security. This position interacts with staff across multiple departments, requiring strong communication skills and the ability to handle a variety of tasks.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of operating systems such as Windows and macOS; understanding of hardware components and common software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Familiarity with networking principles (LAN/WAN); exposure to cloud platforms is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues effectively.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills for assisting non-technical staff and producing accurate documentation.
  • Ability to manage time well, prioritize tasks, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Team-oriented mindset with strong customer service skills.
  • Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or Microsoft/Apple certifications.
  • Experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, and basic network administration.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies (e.g., Hyper-V).
  • Experience supporting surveillance systems, access control, or other municipal technology solutions.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity best practices and security monitoring tools.
  • Prior technical support or help desk experience in an enterprise or multi-site environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to users by troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, and network issues via phone, email, or in person.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and support desktop and mobile hardware, computer systems, phones, cameras, networking equipment, and peripherals at various City locations.
  • Manage and maintain user accounts, email systems, and access permissions.
  • Conduct routine system checks and maintenance to ensure reliable and efficient system performance.
  • Implement and maintain security measures, including monitoring certificates and supporting compliance with security standards.
  • Install necessary software, firmware, and hardware updates.
  • Document technical procedures, issues, resolutions, and system configurations.
  • Assist with Mobile Device Management (MDM), including deployment and monitoring of tablets, phones, and other mobile assets.
  • Analyze and report on the condition of City information systems, identifying potential gaps, risks, or areas for improvement.
